Vietnam fertilizer exports rise sharply to ASEAN buyers
Vietnam's fertilizer exports in the first five months of 2026 continued a strong upward trend. Total shipments to ASEAN reached about 556,000 tonnes worth roughly US$263 million, up 21 % in volume and nearly 50 % in value compared with the same period in 2025. ASEAN accounted for about 28 % of Vietnam's total fertilizer export value, confirming the region as the biggest market.
Cambodia remained the largest ASEAN importer, taking around 273,000 tonnes valued at US$119 million, while shipments to the Philippines almost doubled and grew sharply to Myanmar (187 % increase) and Thailand (273 % increase) in volume. South Korea stayed the second‑largest non‑ASEAN market with about 118,000 tonnes worth US$81 million, up 13 % in volume and over 90 % in value. Exports to Taiwan and Japan saw strong month‑on‑month gains in May but lagged behind the previous year overall. Minor declines were recorded in Mozambique (down more than 70 %) and Angola.
Analysts note that the recovery in Asian agricultural activity and the practice of stock‑piling are driving demand, while future growth will depend on global fertilizer prices and input costs.
