Vietnam economy: VN-Index hits 1,800 and Vingroup reaches record market cap

Vietnam's financial and industrial sectors are experiencing significant shifts. The VN-Index recently surpassed the 1,800-point psychological threshold, driven by positive momentum in sectors like real estate and technology. Notably, Vingroup's market capitalization has exceeded 1.8 quadrillion VND, accounting for over 20% of the HoSE market value, which also propelled Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong's wealth to approximately $36 billion.

In terms of industrial strategy, Vietnam is working to move up the semiconductor value chain. While the country has established a large electronic manufacturing base heavily reliant on FDI, experts emphasize the need to increase domestic value-added through engineering and local supply chain participation rather than just assembly.

On the regulatory front, the State Securities Commission of Vietnam (UBCKNN) met with Nasdaq officials in New York to discuss market connectivity and transparency. This follows the news of Vietnam's potential upgrade from frontier to emerging market status by FTSE Russell, which is expected to attract significant international capital.
