Vietnam Firefighting and Rescue Police mark 65 years of service
The Vietnam Firefighting and Rescue Police Force is marking 65 years of service, highlighting a history of protecting lives and property through dedication and sacrifice. The force's history traces back to the establishment of the Hanoi Firefighting Company in December 1954, shortly after the capital's liberation.
Historical milestones include the defense of the Duc Giang petroleum depot in 1966, where firefighters operated for 17 hours amidst combat and fire. The force has also been guided by historical directives from President Ho Chi Minh, who expressed a wish for the firefighters to be 'unemployed'—meaning a world without fires or loss.
In modern contexts, community-driven innovations are improving local fire safety. In Ho Chi Minh City, resident Tran Van Thai developed a mobile firefighting motorcycle equipped with a pump to navigate narrow alleys where traditional fire trucks cannot reach. His invention can spray water at distances of 10 to 15 meters, providing critical support for local fire response.
