Vietnam fishing boat collision kills one, storm rescue saves 11 sailors

A fishing vessel (registration BTh 98379 TS) capsized after colliding with the cargo ship Viet Thuan 11-07 near Phú Hải Port in Lâm Đồng province on the morning of 6 July. Seventeen crew members were aboard; one fisherman died while the others were rescued by a nearby boat and later transferred to shore.

Separately, on the night of 4 July, authorities rescued eleven fishermen from six small fishing boats that had been driven ashore by the effects of tropical storm No. 1 at Cảng Vạn Ninh, Quảng Ninh province. The rescued crew were taken to a local community centre for medical care and supplies.

Both incidents highlight the hazards faced by Vietnamese fishers operating in coastal waters during adverse weather and shipping traffic.
