Vietnam floods kill at least four and inundate 16,000 homes

Heavy rains, floods, and landslides have killed at least four people and inundated more than 16,000 homes across northern and central Vietnam. While rainfall ceased on Thursday afternoon, floodwaters continue to cover highways and low-lying areas, disrupting transportation and daily activities.

In Hanoi, authorities recovered the body of a university student suspected of being swept into a sewer system during the flooding. In the Da Bac area of Phu Tho province, a landslide claimed three lives on Thursday evening. The rising Bui River has also cut off dozens of households.

Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces are among the hardest hit. The flooding has submerged over 24,000 hectares of crops, including rice and vegetables, as well as significant aquaculture areas. Local authorities have activated disaster response and search-and-rescue plans, including the evacuation of over 500 people from low-lying regions.
