Vietnam football team’s 18‑match winning streak remains unrecognized

Vietnam’s men’s national football team has compiled an 18‑match winning run, surpassing the previous world‑record of 15 wins held by Spain. The streak began with a victory over Myanmar at the ASEAN Cup in December 2024 and includes wins over Singapore, Thailand (both finals), Nepal in Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar again and most recently a 7‑0 win against Timor Leste.

Guinness World Records has not yet validated the streak because the run contains three matches that were friendlies and because the 3‑0 win over Malaysia was awarded after the Asian Football Confederation overturned the original 0‑4 result. It is unclear whether Guinness will count the AFC‑sanctioned score or the original result, and the team needs another official victory (against Singapore on 1 August) to possibly secure recognition.
