Vietnam friendship groups denounce US sanctions against Cuba
Vietnamese solidarity organisations – the Union of Friendship Organisations of Vietnam (VUFO) and the Vietnam‑Cuba Friendship Association – issued a statement in Hanoi expressing deep concern over the United States' recent legal measures and sanctions targeting Cuba. The statement cites Executive Order 14404 issued on May 1 and criminal charges against Cuban Army General Raúl Castro, as well as actions aimed at President Miguel Díaz‑Canel, his relatives, Cuban institutions and companies.
The groups warned that the sanctions and the longstanding blockade harm Cuba’s economy, social development and humanitarian situation, and they specifically criticised sanctions against the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). They called on all parties to refrain from actions that increase tensions, to pursue dialogue, to respect UN resolutions calling for an end to the blockade, and reaffirmed Vietnam’s solidarity with the Cuban people.
