Vietnam durian exports approach $4 billion target
Vietnam's durian export industry is experiencing rapid growth, with export turnover reaching approximately $1.95 billion in the first eight months of 2026, a 28% increase compared to the previous year. China remains the primary market, accounting for over 95% of total exports, valued at $1.85 billion. However, the industry is seeing significant diversification, notably with South Korea seeing a nearly 200% increase in durian imports over the last seven months.
While export values are rising, domestic prices have remained stable or slightly declined due to increased supply during the peak harvest season in the Central Highlands and Mekong Delta. To sustain this momentum and move toward a $4 billion target, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is focusing on improving quality control, implementing digital traceability systems, and expanding certified growing areas and packaging facilities. These measures aim to meet strict international standards regarding pesticide residues and food safety, particularly for high-growth markets like India and South Korea.
