Vietnam garment export prices to EU significantly exceed Bangladesh

Data from Eurostat reveals a significant disparity in garment export prices to the European Union among Asian suppliers. Bangladesh currently exports garments at an average price of 13.80 euro/kg, a decrease of 8.47% compared to the previous year. In contrast, Vietnam has seen its average export price rise to 29 euro/kg during the first half of this year.

Mohammad Hatem, Chairman of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), attributed this gap to the composition of export goods. He noted that Vietnam focuses on high-value garment products, whereas Bangladesh primarily exports low-end, mass-produced items. Hatem also cited unhealthy price competition among domestic exporters in Bangladesh as a factor that allows international retailers and fashion brands to pressure prices lower.

Other regional trends include a 7.86% price increase in Cambodia, reaching 18.67 euro/kg, while China saw a 2.18% decrease in its garment export prices.
