Gold markets face volatility amid rising US Treasury yields and Fed rate hike signals

Gold markets have experienced significant volatility following the release of the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes. The minutes indicated that officials may support further interest rate hikes before the end of 2026 to combat persistent inflation, a stance that has strengthened the US Dollar and pushed US 10-year Treasury yields to levels not seen since early 2002.

In Vietnam, domestic gold prices saw sharp fluctuations. On October 8, SJC gold prices decreased by 500,000 VND per tael, with buying and selling rates at 140 million and 143 million VND respectively. However, by October 9, prices rebounded significantly, with major brands like SJC, DOJI, and PNJ increasing prices by approximately 800,000 VND per tael, bringing SJC gold bars to 140.8 million VND for buying and 143.8 million VND for selling.

Globally, gold prices faced downward pressure due to the rising US Dollar and high bond yields, dropping toward the 4,100 USD per ounce range. Despite this, some analysts suggest a potential recovery, with one expert predicting global average prices could reach 4,250 USD per ounce by the end of the year, supported by central bank purchases and its role as a safe-haven asset.
