Viet Thai International to gain control of Highlands Coffee
Viet Thai International (VTI) has reached an agreement to acquire an additional 11% stake in SF Vung Tau Joint Stock Company, the legal entity operating Highlands Coffee in Vietnam. The transaction is valued at approximately 2,300 billion VND (roughly 88 million USD).
Following the deal, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) will reduce its ownership from 60% to 49%, while VTI will increase its stake from 40% to 51%, making VTI the controlling shareholder. The transaction is subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. David Thai, the founder and CEO of Highlands Coffee, remains a key figure through VTI.
Highlands Coffee has shown significant growth, reaching 1,062 stores globally by June 2026. The company is also reportedly considering an IPO planned for the first quarter of 2027. Jollibee indicated that the proceeds from the sale will be used for debt reduction, reinvestment, or shareholder distributions.
