Vietnam Government Issues New Higher‑Education Strategy and Broad Policy Resolutions in August 2026

At a meeting on the draft University Development Strategy for 2026‑2035, Vice‑Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu praised the Ministry of Education and Training’s preparation and ordered a review of tuition fees, a restructuring of university networks, and the integration of artificial intelligence into curricula and administration. The draft emphasizes building a national university ecosystem that links universities, research institutes, businesses, local authorities and international partners, and calls for transparent, quality‑based competition among institutions.

In the same period, the Vietnamese Government adopted several resolutions, including NQ‑CP 216/2026 to boost macro‑economic stability, increase state revenue by at least 10 % in 2026, accelerate key infrastructure projects, and expand digital public services. Resolution NQ‑CP 218/2026 outlines the “Strong Sea Nation” program, setting nine tasks to develop maritime economy, protect marine environments, and enhance defence. A separate decision signed by Vice‑Prime Minister Nguyễn Văn Thắng establishes criteria for classifying state‑owned enterprises as part of a broader capital restructuring effort.
