Vietnam government unveils scholarships for science, engineering and strategic technology students

Under Decree No. 179, the Vietnamese Government will provide monthly scholarships of VND 3.7‑5.5 million to students enrolled in basic science, key engineering and strategic technology programmes. Eligibility is limited to the top 30 % of candidates in each field who have passed the national high‑school exam with required subjects (math and two of physics, chemistry, biology, English). The scholarship is awarded automatically; applicants do not need to submit separate paperwork and the payment, monitoring and reporting will be handled through a central training‑resource management platform.

The draft decree lists 51 eligible majors, covering areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor design, data science, information security, biotechnology, computer science, information technology, materials science, mathematics, physics and chemistry. It also sets out procedures for budgeting, data sharing between training institutions and government agencies, and accountability measures to ensure transparent, nationwide implementation.
