Vietnam health bulletins warn on detox fads and highlight blueberry benefits
Various "detox" and "body cleansing" regimens—ranging from fasting and juice‑only diets to supplements, herbal products, sauna sessions and colon cleansing—are being widely promoted in Vietnam as ways to eliminate toxins, lose weight and improve health. Scientific studies, however, have not confirmed clear benefits, and research on human detoxification remains limited. For patients with ulcerative colitis, nutrition expert Danielle Gaffen of the IBD Center in San Diego advises caution, noting that dairy products can aggravate symptoms because many sufferers are lactose‑intolerant.
A recent clinical trial conducted by researchers at King's College London and reported by Medical News Today found that daily consumption of wild blueberry powder equivalent to about 178 g of fresh berries improved participants' memory and concentration. The same bulletin explains that acute stress raises the brain’s glucose demand by roughly 12 %, prompting a biological drive to seek sugary foods, which accounts for stress‑induced cravings for sweets.
