Vietnam Health Ministry plans 200 new satellite hospitals to cut referrals by 20%

The Ministry of Health announced a programme to establish at least 200 satellite hospitals across Vietnam by 2030. The goal is to enable patients to receive appropriate care locally, reducing unnecessary transfers to higher‑level facilities by at least 20%. The plan also emphasizes the development of family medicine, linking electronic health records and tele‑medicine to ensure continuous care for chronic patients.

Deputy Minister Trần Văn Thuấn highlighted that a modern health system must deliver timely, high‑quality services near residents’ homes and integrate data from clinics, hospitals and insurance to avoid gaps when patients move between care levels.
