Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity UNESCO heritage conservation cultural authenticity Vietnam

Vietnam will host the Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity from September 27 to October 1, 2026, in Hanoi and Ninh Binh. Co-organized by the Vietnamese government and UNESCO, the event is expected to convene approximately 250 international delegates, experts, and heritage managers.

The dialogue aims to address the evolving concept of heritage authenticity in a changing world. Discussions will focus on how to preserve cultural values amidst modern challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, natural disasters, and technological advancements. Participants will explore the importance of local knowledge, spiritual connections, and the relationship between communities and their natural environments.

Key activities include plenary sessions, thematic discussions, and exhibitions. In Hanoi, the program will feature the groundbreaking ceremony for the conservation and restoration of the Kinh Thien Palace at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. In Ninh Binh, delegates will conduct field surveys at the Trang An Landscape Complex and the Tam Chuc area.
