Vietnam highway crash underscores need for proactive lane discipline

A short video captured a reckless overtaking maneuver by a Mercedes on a Vietnamese highway that triggered a multi‑vehicle collision. The Mercedes attempted to pass without sufficient clearance, colliding with a vehicle equipped with a dash‑cam and a third car traveling normally. The incident involved three vehicles in total.

Experts highlighted that both the overtaking driver and the vehicle being overtaken shared responsibility. They advised drivers to overtake or change lanes only when a safe distance can be maintained from both the vehicle ahead and adjacent lanes, to stay in the middle lane for better maneuverability, and to avoid “eating defeat” by refusing to yield. The dash‑cam footage showed the following car accelerating to block the overtaking move, which further escalated the danger.

The analysis concluded that proactive behavior—waiting for adequate gaps, choosing the appropriate lane, and yielding when necessary—reduces the risk of chain collisions on high‑speed roads.
