Vietnam holds national workshop on supporting industry development

A national scientific workshop titled ‘Orienting the Development of Vietnam’s Supporting Industries’ was held in Phu Tho Province. The event was organized by the Central Policy and Strategy Board in coordination with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Phu Tho Provincial Party Committee.

Attended by nearly 400 delegates, including high-ranking officials such as Politburo member Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc, the workshop focused on evaluating the current state of Vietnam’s supporting industries. Participants discussed theoretical and practical issues, identified bottlenecks, and proposed new mechanisms and policies to drive development.

Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasized that supporting industries are a fundamental pillar of national industrial capacity rather than a secondary component. He noted that a strong industry is defined not just by production scale and exports, but by the ability to master materials, components, technology, design, and high-value-added services. The workshop aimed to transition from simple product localization to the localization of value and technical capability.
