Hanoi hosts Gala to honor Vietnamese language and overseas community
The 2026 Gala Tiếng Việt thân thương, themed ‘Cánh diều bay cao từ tiếng Mẹ’ (A kite flies high from Mother Tongue), was held in Hanoi on August 26. Organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Vietnam Television, the event celebrates the beauty and value of the Vietnamese language.
The program honors the upcoming Vietnamese Language Day for overseas communities on September 8. During the ceremony, eight individuals were recognized for their significant contributions to teaching and promoting the Vietnamese language abroad. The event featured 50 teachers from 14 different countries.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng emphasized that the Vietnamese language serves as an invisible but strong bond connecting citizens to their roots, regardless of where they live. She noted that the kite imagery symbolizes how the community can integrate and soar globally while remaining firmly attached to their cultural identity through their native tongue. The event also highlighted Resolution 23-NQ/TW, issued by the Politburo on August 2, which identifies overseas Vietnamese as a strategic resource and the Vietnamese language as a vital soft power for the nation.
