Vietnam implements bilingual English integration in schools
Vietnam is advancing efforts to integrate English as a second language within the school system through Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). At Nguyen Hue Secondary School, teachers are conducting pilot programs where subjects like Mathematics are taught using bilingual methods. This approach requires close coordination between subject teachers, who manage academic content, and English teachers, who assist with terminology, pronunciation, and instructional commands.
To support this transition, the Ministry of Education and Training is drafting regulations to evaluate educational institutions based on three levels: beginning, developing, and highly developed. This framework aims to assess progress toward the national goal of establishing English as a second language by 2035, with a long-term vision for 2045. Experts emphasize that success depends on creating a natural communicative environment through clubs and projects rather than simply increasing classroom hours or focusing on exam preparation.
