Vietnam implements education reforms and curriculum updates

Vietnam is implementing significant educational reforms as the 2026-2027 school year begins. The government has directed the Ministry of Education and Training to finalize a comprehensive plan for reforming examinations, testing, and admissions by September. This plan aims to make processes more practical and cost-effective, while simultaneously updating the K-12 curriculum to better integrate English language learning and Artificial Intelligence applications.

In Hanoi, discussions are underway regarding the potential abolition of the grade 10 entrance examination in favor of school record-based admissions. While some parents welcome the prospect of reduced academic pressure, educators and experts warn that such a transition requires a careful roadmap. Key concerns include the need for sufficient public school capacity and the establishment of standardized, reliable data to ensure fairness and prevent academic dishonesty.

In regional areas like Lao Cai, the new school year has commenced with various support initiatives. In Y Ty commune, the Youth Unions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training, alongside several businesses, donated gifts valued at 1 billion VND to ethnic minority students.
