Vietnam implements nationwide free health screening program

Vietnam is implementing a nationwide program for free periodic health check-ups and screenings to facilitate early disease detection. Currently, over 50% of the country's population has received these screenings, with some localities exceeding a 90% coverage rate.

In Quang Ninh province, specifically in Quang Ha commune, the program has reached over 98% of residents. These screenings have successfully identified various conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and eye pathologies, in individuals who previously showed no clear symptoms. Detected cases are being integrated into electronic health records for long-term community-based management.

The Ministry of Health is overseeing the program to ensure effectiveness and cost-efficiency. Dr. Vuong Anh Duong, Deputy Director of the Medical Examination and Treatment Administration, stated that the core objective is the early detection of diseases and risk factors. To maintain quality, the Ministry requires that screenings be conducted at qualified medical facilities with specialized doctors in fields such as internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, dentistry, ophthalmology, ENT, and obstetrics.
