Vietnam implements nationwide location identification system
The Vietnamese government has issued Decree No. 326/2026/ND-CP, establishing a new system for location identification across the country. Under this regulation, every location within Vietnam's territory—excluding those classified as state secrets—will be assigned a unique 12-digit identification code to ensure distinction and prevent duplication.
The scope of identification is broad, covering land plots, architectural works, construction projects, landmarks, and various physical structures. For locations extending along transport routes, the identification will include start and end points, intersections, and administrative boundary crossings.
The Ministry of Public Security is tasked with managing the national location identification database. This system aims to synchronize and connect data between national and specialized databases, including information such as addresses, coordinates, postal codes, and ownership details. These identification codes will be accessible and searchable via the VNeID application.
