Vietnam implements new Identity Card Law with streamlined data displays

Under the new Identity Card Law in Vietnam, new identity card models will feature streamlined information displays. This adjustment aims to modernize the cards, enhance personal data security, and align with digital transformation requirements by reducing the amount of personal information visible on the card surface.

While certain information will no longer be printed on the physical card, all data remains updated, stored, and managed securely within the National Population Database and other specialized databases. Competent authorities can access this information through electronic systems to facilitate administrative procedures, reduce the need for multiple documents, and minimize the risk of personal data leaks.

The simplification of information fields does not affect the legal validity of the cards or the rights and interests of citizens. This change is considered a significant step in modernizing population management and promoting the development of a digital government and digital society.
