Vietnam police warn of VNeID identity fraud targeting parents

Tuyen Quang police have issued a warning regarding scammers impersonating law enforcement or public service officials to facilitate fraudulent VNeID level 2 identity upgrades for children. Scammers often target parents during school enrollment periods, claiming a child’s data is incorrect or unverified to create urgency. They use malicious links or apps to gain remote control of phones, steal OTPs, and access bank accounts to embezzle funds.

Authorities emphasize that level 2 identity registration for children aged 6 to 14 must be done in person at local police stations or identity card issuance sites. Remote activation via suspicious links is a definitive sign of fraud.

In a separate development related to digital transformation, new regulations under the Law on Identity allow citizens to use electronic identity data and identity cards to perform administrative procedures and civil transactions without presenting multiple physical documents. This initiative aims to streamline public services and enhance the efficiency of the national population database.
