Vietnam implements new military service regulations
The National Assembly has passed amendments to nine laws regarding military and defense, which are set to take effect on September 1, 2026. These changes aim to improve state management and ensure transparency and fairness in the selection and enlistment of citizens.
Key updates include a clearer definition of acts considered evasion of military service. Citizens who fail to comply with decisions regarding military registration, preliminary selection, health examinations, or enlistment orders will face legal consequences. Additionally, the law strictly prohibits fraudulent activities during registration and health screenings to prevent dishonest reporting or attempts to avoid service.
To protect citizen rights, the law ensures that individuals participating in registration, preliminary selection, or health checks receive prescribed benefits. Employees of organizations or enterprises will continue to receive their full salary and existing allowances during these activities, with additional expenses covered according to regulations.
