Vietnam mandates VNeID linking for bank and digital accounts

Under Decree 320/2026/ND-CP, effective September 28, 2026, various digital transaction accounts in Vietnam must be linked and authenticated with the VNeID electronic identification system.

While 11 sectors—including social media, telecommunications, securities, education, and e-commerce—must complete this process by December 31, 2026, bank accounts have been granted an extended deadline. Bank accounts created before September 28, 2026, must be fully linked and authenticated with VNeID by June 30, 2027.

In a separate development regarding the VNeID application, authorities in Gia Lai have addressed security concerns following reports of Android users receiving warnings about 'unlocked bootloaders' or custom ROMs. Officials clarified that these are hardware and software security alerts rather than indications of account hacking. Users are advised to update to official operating systems and avoid installing unverified applications to maintain data security.
