Vietnam intensifies environmental and mineral resource management

Authorities in Vietnam are intensifying inspections and enforcement to address environmental and mineral resource violations. Local police and government agencies are actively targeting illegal land use and unauthorized waste accumulation to prevent environmental hotspots. Recent enforcement actions include the discovery of over 13,500 cubic meters of unapproved solid waste in Phu Ninh commune and approximately 3,157 cubic meters of illegally stockpiled mud and rock in Binh Phu commune.

To support sustainable mining and mitigate environmental risks, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Consolidated Document No. 38/VBHN-BCT. This regulation details the requirements for establishing and approving risk management plans for mining activities. Under the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection, mining enterprises are required to proactively identify and control risks such as landslides, explosions, and waste dispersion. The new consolidated document aims to simplify administrative procedures and ensure transparency while maintaining strict oversight of environmental safety and resource management.
