Vietnam introduces monthly social allowances for single parents

The Vietnamese government has issued Decree 335/2026/NĐ-CP, establishing new social assistance policies effective October 5, 2026. The decree introduces monthly social allowances for poor or near-poor single parents raising children under the age of 16.

To qualify, individuals must meet specific economic and marital status criteria, such as being unmarried or having a spouse who is deceased or missing according to law. The allowance amount is calculated based on the number of eligible children, with a standard rate of 540,000 VND per child per month.

Additionally, the policy provides continued support for single parents whose children are aged 16 or older, provided the children are enrolled in continuous education, including high school, vocational training, or university studies.
