Vietnam drug trafficking cases result in death and life sentences
Vietnamese authorities have concluded major legal proceedings regarding large-scale drug trafficking operations. In the VN10 case, the Ho Chi Minh City Police reported that investigations led to 11 death sentences and 19 life sentences, with total prison terms reaching 2,338 years. The case originated from a March 2023 discovery at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, where customs officials found Ketamine and MDMA hidden in toothpaste tubes carried by flight attendants.
In a separate incident at Noi Bai International Airport, a Thai national, Yuwasut Prasatporn, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Authorities discovered over 3,561 grams of cocaine concealed in candy packaging within his carry-on luggage. Prasatporn claimed he was hired by an acquaintance via WhatsApp to transport the drugs for a fee.
Additionally, in Dong Thap province, several individuals were sentenced for a fraud scheme involving a fake marriage arrangement designed to deceive a Chinese national.
