Vietnam issues resolution to drive new regional growth poles

On August 28, 2026, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 27-NQ/TW regarding the development of regions and the organization of national development space for a new period. This resolution aims to create institutional breakthroughs following the reorganization of administrative units and the implementation of a two-level local government model.

In the first half of 2026, several provinces reported significant GRDP growth. Ha Tinh led with 12.79%, followed by Ninh Binh (11.44%), Hung Yen (10.72%), Phu Tho (10.18%), Tay Ninh (10.12%), and Thai Nguyen (10.01%).

Growth in Ha Tinh has been driven by large-scale industrial projects, including the VinFast electric motorcycle production complex and the Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant. In Hung Yen, the development of industrial zones such as Thang Long II, Pho Noi A, and Yen My has facilitated FDI attraction and economic restructuring. However, reports suggest a potential K-shaped economic divergence, where FDI sectors and large domestic corporations thrive while small and medium-sized enterprises face challenges.
