Vietnam joins top emerging markets in capital attraction race
Vietnam has emerged as a leading emerging market in the race to attract international capital, distinguishing itself from other ASEAN nations. According to Peter Stein, CEO of ASIFMA, the Asian capital markets are experiencing a “K-shaped divergence,” where certain markets attract significantly more investment than others.
In the ASIFMA Asia-Pacific Global Capital Markets Survey, which covers 13 markets, business optimism in the region is at its highest level in five years. Vietnam is identified as the only emerging market in a top-tier group alongside China, India, Singapore, and South Korea.
Notably, Vietnam's appeal is driven by its long-term growth prospects and fundamental economic foundations rather than the immediate benefits of the global AI supply chain seen in other markets. Approximately two-thirds of survey participants intend to expand their operations within the Asia-Pacific region over the next three years.
