Vietnam launches 2026 futsal league as former Korean World Cup star joins national football coaching staff

The HDBank Vietnam Futsal Championship 2026 opened on 21 June in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring eight clubs including Hà Nội, Luxury Hạ Long and Thái Sơn Bắc. Matches are played in a double‑round‑robin format across Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with the champion set to receive a VND 500 million prize and a spot in the 2027 AFC Club Futsal Championship.

On 22 June, former South Korean international Kim Do Heon, who appeared at the 2006 World Cup, was announced as assistant coach to Kim Sang Sik for the Vietnam men’s football team. He will help prepare the squad for the AFF Cup 2026, with a training camp in Hanoi followed by a two‑week camp in South Korea and a friendly against Myanmar on 18 July. The team aims to defend its regional title.

Both developments underscore Vietnam’s effort to raise the profile of its futsal and football programmes ahead of upcoming continental competitions.
