Vietnam launches 500-day campaign to recover war martyrs' remains
Vietnam is conducting a 500-day campaign to search for, recover, and identify the remains of war martyrs. The initiative involves military teams, local militias, and medical professionals working across various provinces.
In Dak Lak, the K51 Team recently recovered the remains of martyr Tran Lieu, who was killed in 1967. Following tips from a witness and relatives, officials excavated a site near a large tree, discovering personal items including buttons, medicine bottles, and bullets. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, biological samples could not be taken from the teeth.
In Khanh Hoa, forensic doctors from the provincial Forensic Center are participating in the mission by traveling to difficult terrains, such as Hon Chao, to collect bone samples for DNA testing. These efforts aim to provide scientific identification for soldiers whose remains have been lost to time and nature.
