Vietnam's first domestically produced aluminium ingots herald completion of local value chain

Vietnam produced its first primary aluminium ingots at the Dak Nong Aluminium Electrolysis Plant in Lâm Đồng’s Nhân Cơ industrial park on 26 July 2026, marking the final link in the country’s bauxite–alumina–aluminium value chain. The ingots and accompanying aluminium billets were reported to have a purity of 99.71%.

Phase 1 of the plant, with a capacity of 150,000 t per year, is already operating. Phase 2 (300,000 t) is slated to start in Q4 2026 and Phase 3 will bring the design capacity to 450,000 t per year by Q1 2027. The project is expected to cut Vietnam’s aluminium imports by about US$1.5 billion annually and to generate roughly 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.

Stavian Industrial Metal received the first batch of ingots and will act as the official distributor, launching the commercial circulation of domestically produced primary aluminium in Vietnam.
