Vietnam launches large-scale reforestation and forest protection initiatives
Vietnam is undertaking significant reforestation efforts to combat climate change and land erosion. In Ho Chi Minh City, a plan has been established to replace over 441 hectares of forest used for infrastructure development. This initiative involves three technical forestry solutions: planting 167.76 hectares of new protection forests in Can Gio and Binh Loi, promoting natural regeneration across 173 hectares in Can Gio and the Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, and implementing supplementary planting on 107 hectares in Can Gio.
On a national scale, the Gaia Nature Conservation Center is coordinating the ‘Joining Hands to Plant Forests’ 2026 campaign. This initiative aims to plant nearly 70,000 native large-wood trees across various protected and special-use forests, including Cuc Phuong National Park, Ben En National Park, and the Phong Dien Nature Reserve. These efforts are designed to increase forest cover, prevent landslides during rainy seasons, and enhance long-term carbon absorption.
