Vietnam launches national agricultural product traceability system

Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, together with Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, officially launched a nationwide traceability platform for agricultural, forestry and fishery products on 30 June. The system is intended to digitise the sector, provide end‑to‑end transparency of supply chains, improve product quality and boost the international reputation of Vietnamese produce.

The platform integrates data for more than 18,500 items from 181 product groups and 170 enterprises across 24 provinces. It can handle about 1,000 queries per second, support 30,000 simultaneous scans and process roughly 85 million QR‑code scans daily. Built on GS1 standards, electronic signatures and blockchain technology, it enables consumers and regulators to verify origin information instantly.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung called the rollout a crucial step in the digital transformation of agriculture and urged rapid expansion to major export commodities, especially those destined for China, the EU and the United States. He highlighted the sector’s contribution of nearly US$31 billion in export value this year and the government’s target of over US$74 billion by 2026, stressing that mandatory traceability will become essential for maintaining market access and competitiveness.
