Vietnam launches national traceability system for agroforestry and fishery products

Vietnam is finalising a national traceability system that will cover agro‑forestry and fishery commodities. The programme focuses on three pillars – strengthening the regulatory framework, building technical infrastructure and completing connectivity and testing trials – to enable reliable tracking of products from farm to market, improve food‑safety standards and support higher‑value exports.

The rollout comes as Vinh Long province expands green‑fleshed pomelo cultivation for export to Australia and China, and authorities warn that El Niño could threaten seasonal harvests. The system is part of wider reforms aimed at attracting high‑tech foreign investment, digitising customs to combat counterfeit goods, and bolstering Vietnam’s position in regional supply chains.

The initiative is intended to enhance transparency for domestic producers, reassure overseas buyers and strengthen Vietnam’s competitiveness in the global agricultural market.
