Vietnam launches unified startup ecosystem database to boost innovation

Vietnam entered the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 at rank 50, its highest ever placement, reflecting growth in the number of startups, investment funds, incubators and supportive policies. However, officials say data on the ecosystem remain fragmented across agencies, limiting the ability of local authorities to assess sector health and design effective policies.

To address this, the Ministry of Science and Technology organized a conference in Hanoi and announced Decision 2572/QĐ‑BKHCN to build a centralized database that links startups, scientific‑technology firms and incubators with a set of measurement indicators. The system aims to standardise and regularly update information on technology focus areas, high‑growth companies, capital flows and policy impact, providing a data‑driven basis for future strategic planning.

Experts also highlighted the broader need for Vietnam to create new development spaces – digital, data‑driven and innovation‑focused – to stay competitive amid global trends such as digital transformation, AI and green transition.
