Vietnam lawmakers propose compensation for gas and utility meter fraud

The National Assembly of Vietnam is discussing amendments to several laws, including the Law on Consumer Rights Protection, to establish better mechanisms for compensating citizens affected by fraud. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Chair of the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, emphasized the need for protections against fraudulent practices at gas stations and inaccuracies in electricity and water meters, noting these issues directly impact citizens' finances.

Proposed changes also aim to address unfair competition in online business environments and regulate promotional activities on digital platforms, including cross-border promotions. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is working to resolve overlaps between consumer protection laws and personal data protection regulations. Additionally, lawmakers are calling for increased transparency regarding the use of algorithms and interfaces that might manipulate consumer choices.
