Vietnam Leads Southeast Asia in Google Gemini AI Adoption

Vietnam is the top market in Southeast Asia for Google’s Gemini AI assistant, especially in educational contexts. According to Google, Vietnamese users generate 17% of all Gemini queries for learning activities, with more than 160,000 students using the Gemini Canvas tool each month and around 55,000 daily requests from teachers and lecturers. The country also shows the highest share of native‑language usage, with 89% of commands issued in Vietnamese, and leads the region in programming and mathematical‑thinking queries.

Google reports that overall Gemini activity in Southeast Asia has more than doubled in the past year, making it the fastest‑growing Google app in the region and one of the most searched‑for AI assistants worldwide, with 900 million monthly active users globally. In a related development, Google is said to have limited Meta’s access to Gemini because of insufficient computational capacity, highlighting a shift in the AI race from model competition to infrastructure control.
