Vietnam leverages diaspora to promote national culture

Vietnamese cultural identity is being preserved and promoted globally through the efforts of the overseas Vietnamese community. By maintaining traditional language, customs, and cuisine, the diaspora acts as a bridge for international audiences to understand the nation and its people.

Recent resolutions from the Politburo, specifically Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 23/NQ-TW, emphasize that developing culture and people is a vital internal resource for sustainable national development. These policies highlight the role of diplomatic missions and the overseas community in promoting national identity and strengthening ties to the homeland.

Experts suggest that cultural diplomacy should evolve from one-way introductions to active dialogue and storytelling. With approximately 6.5 million Vietnamese living abroad, these individuals serve as practical “cultural ambassadors” who can interpret Vietnamese values in a way that is accessible to local populations.
