Vietnam localities restructure public school networks

Local authorities in Vietnam are implementing significant restructuring of public school networks to streamline administration and optimize resources.

In Ca Mau Province, the provincial government has completed a reorganization of public educational institutions. The initiative resulted in a 51.88% reduction in the number of public schools, leaving 359 facilities. This consolidation led to the removal of 638 management positions, including principals and vice-principals, and the reduction of 669 small, satellite school sites. While the move aims to centralize investment in modern facilities and equipment, officials noted challenges such as increased travel distances for students in remote areas and localized teacher shortages.

Similarly, in Dong Hoi Ward, the school network was reorganized from 28 public schools down to 14. This restructuring includes a mix of preschools, primary, and secondary schools. To support the new academic year, local authorities have allocated over 16 billion VND for repairs and approved a 33 billion VND project to build a new 28-classroom facility at Dong Hai Secondary School.
