Vietnam Men's Volleyball Wins First SEA V. Cup Title, Qualifies for AVC Cup 2027
Vietnam’s men’s national volleyball team captured its first SEA V. Cup championship at the 2026 edition held in Jakarta, Indonesia. After beating host Indonesia 3‑1 in the semifinal, Vietnam faced Thailand in the final and won a tight five‑set match 3‑2, overturning an early set loss to claim the title for the first time in more than two decades.
The victory was achieved under Italian coach Federico Rampazzo, a former electronics engineer, whose tactical adjustments helped Vietnam rally after falling behind in the second set. The triumph also secured Vietnam a direct berth at the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup 2027, joining fellow Southeast Asian representatives Cambodia and Indonesia. The win lifted Vietnam’s world ranking from 59 to 58.
The 2026 tournament introduced a new cup format, replacing the former SEA V. League structure, with teams drawn into groups before knockout rounds. Six teams—Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines and Myanmar—competed for the title.
