Vietnam Minister Hoang Minh Son Outlines University Restructuring Plan

Education Minister Hoàng Minh Sơn said the Party’s resolution calls for a major re‑arrangement of Vietnam’s higher‑education institutions, aiming to cut the number of weak schools and create stronger, more efficient universities by April 2027. The plan will merge, dissolve or downsize under‑performing campuses, using a 28‑point quality and financial sustainability index as the basis for decisions.

The Ministry of Education and Training also launched the ninth national journalism competition “For the Cause of Vietnam Education” for 2026, co‑organized with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Journalists Association. The contest seeks to honour outstanding reporting on education, promote innovative ideas and highlight dedication to students and national development. Submissions are accepted from 5 September 2025 to 4 September 2026 across print, online, radio and television formats.
