Vietnam Ministry of Construction issues green urban growth indicators

Vietnam's Ministry of Construction has issued a new circular establishing 24 indicators for green urban growth. These indicators are designed to guide the development of green cities and the preparation of corresponding progress reports. The indicators are categorized into four distinct groups:

- Economic (5 indicators): Assessing the efficiency of energy and natural resource use in urban investment and development. - Environmental (10 indicators): Evaluating environmental quality, urban landscapes, renewable energy adoption, and the reduction of pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. - Social (4 indicators): Measuring improvements in the quality of life and living conditions for urban residents. - Institutional (5 indicators): Assessing the management, direction, and administration of urban authorities regarding green growth.

The regulation applies to centrally managed cities and urban areas classified from Type I to Type V. Priority activities include the development of green buildings, low-emission urban transport, smart city initiatives, and enhancing climate change resilience. These indicators will serve as a basis for evaluating investment projects, monitoring national green growth strategies, and adjusting urban planning and development programs.
