Vietnam Ministry of Education clarifies tutoring restrictions

The Ministry of Education and Training has issued guidance clarifying regulations regarding teachers providing paid extra classes to students they are already teaching in official school curricula.

According to the guidance, teachers are prohibited from organizing paid extra classes outside of school for any students they are currently assigned to teach under the school's official educational plan. The Ministry clarified that this restriction is based on the specific students being taught, rather than the subject matter.

For example, a teacher assigned to teach Informatics in a regular classroom cannot organize paid private tutoring for Mathematics for those same students, even if the teacher holds the professional qualifications to teach Mathematics. The regulation applies regardless of whether the subject taught in the extra class differs from the subject taught in the official curriculum, aiming to prevent potential conflicts of interest.
