Vietnam Ministry of Education updates STEM and vocational training policies
The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training has issued new regulations to modernize the national education and vocational training landscape. Under Circular 86/2026/TT-BGDĐT, STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) will be integrated into general education. The policy aims to foster innovation and digital transformation without imposing new mandatory subjects, additional administrative burdens, or expensive procurement requirements for schools.
Despite these goals, challenges remain regarding the implementation of modern technologies such as AI, Robotics, and IoT, as teachers may require more intensive professional development to bridge the gap between policy and practice.
Simultaneously, the Ministry has expanded vocational training to meet the demands of the renewable energy sector. Circular 77/2026/TT-BGDĐT officially adds “Wind Turbine Operation and Maintenance” to the list of vocational training occupations. This new specialized field, effective December 1, 2026, will be offered at secondary, intermediate, and college levels to support the growing wind energy industry.
