Vietnam Ministry of Finance addresses 4,000 cases of business identity theft
The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance is addressing approximately 4,000 cases where individuals' personal information was allegedly used to fraudulently establish businesses. These reports were identified through the tax department's cleaning campaign via the eTax Mobile application and hotlines.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Duc Chi noted that if citizens have submitted reports regarding identity theft for business registration and have not received a resolution after six months, the matter must be escalated to the Ministry for timely intervention. Currently, the information has been transferred to business registration authorities for coordination.
Trinh Thi Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Private Enterprises and Collective Economic Sectors, explained that while the current self-declaration registration mechanism facilitates entrepreneurship, it has been exploited for identity theft. The department is working with provincial authorities to verify these cases and will revoke business registrations once fraud is confirmed. Additionally, the Ministry is researching amendments to the Law on Enterprises to include measures to prevent such impersonation.
