Vietnam Ministry of Health launches free annual health checks for children under 6

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has issued new guidelines mandating at least one free comprehensive health examination each year for all children under six. The check includes measurements of height, weight, vital signs, nutrition assessment, developmental and mental evaluation, and a full physical exam of major organ systems. A distinctive feature is autism-spectrum risk screening for children aged 16‑30 months, with follow‑up referrals if concerns arise.

Results are entered into a standardized electronic health record that links to national health databases and the VNeID app, enabling continuous monitoring from early childhood. Exams are to be conducted primarily at commune health stations equipped with the required staff and equipment, but can also be delivered via mobile clinics or qualified public and private facilities. The program aims to detect congenital conditions, developmental disorders and other health issues early, allowing timely intervention and reducing long‑term complications for Vietnamese children.
